Lawsuit Leads to Yahoo Closing Chat Rooms

Last month, Yahoo closed chat rooms which facilitated child predators, pornographers, and other seedy activity. The move appears to be in response to a lawsuit.

“The specific reason for the closure not withstanding, this is a positive a step in the online fight against child exploitation,” said Michelle Collins, director of the exploited children unit at The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, based in Alexandria, Va.

i think it is wrong for yahoo to punish everyone by closing all of their user created chat rooms because parents can’t control their kids p.c.usage. they need to have better controlover their kids and what they watch and do.

Well, Yahoo does have to protect itself as well. As the article states, this is in response to a lawsuit.

Yahoo isn’t about to have any success trying to change bad parents into good ones. There are just too many of them out there and it’s not Yahoo’s responsibility to get people to parent responsibly.
