How Do I Temporarily Disable ComputerTime?

If you need to shut down ComputerTime for any reason so that it’s not running, there is an easy way to do this.

Kid’s, If you want to do this there is an extra step that isn’t quite so easy.

First of all you will need to have the ComputerTime Admin password. Usually parents have this, and aren’t going to give it up to their kids. Sorry kids.

First, be logged into ComputerTime under any Profile, or as the Admin.

From the ComputerTime Icon in the task bar notification area, click to pop up the menu, then hold the <Shift>-key down. While holding that down, select Log Off.

A window should display that asks for the ComputerTime Admin password. Type it in, click OK, and ComputerTime will go away for the duration of that Windows session.

How do I get ComputerTime started again?

ComputerTime will automatically start up the next time you log on. If you don’t want to have to log off to get it restarted, another way is to simply run the ComputerTime Admin tool, and immediately exit (You don’t even have to log in to ComputerTime Admin, just hit the cancel button on the log on window for ComputerTime Admin. That should start the monitoring again.

Why would I want to disable ComputerTime temporarily?

Common reasons would things like,

  • The kids are away and you don’t feel like having it on for the week and you don’t feel like completely uninstalling it
  • You’re trying to diagnose network issues, and ComputerTime keeps restarting because it loses it’s connection to the settings database
  • You’re trying to diagnose a conflict and would rather have it not running as you diagnose things

It is a viable alternative to temporarily uninstalling the entire application. I hope this helps!

    Hi,
Can I whitelist a specific web address so that it can be accessed when internet time is not available.

    Thank you.

Asim, that’s a really good question. I’d like to know the answer too.

Hi Asim and Daniel – Sorry, it is not possible to whitelist a web address so that it can be accessed when Internet time is up. You can whitelist specific programs in ComputerTime Admin, but not web addresses.
